Scuba Gear Rack
The goal was to build a rack that could hold most of the gear (2 drysuits,
BCD's, and regulators) for rinsing in the driveway, and then be wheeled into
storage in the garage. Schedule 40 2" PVC is strong enough to hold the
gear but I would not push the design tide enough to hold 3 suits--the weakest
points, the lower T's, might not hold the extra weight.
I suggest using PVC cement on all of the joints except the two T's on the wheeled section. This way, you could remove the rack from the wheels and store the unit flat.
Materials
- 3x 10' lengths of schedule 40 2" PVC pipe, cut down
- 3x @ 52" (frame long dimension and hanging bar)
- 2x @ 48" (posts)
- 4x @ 12" (frame narrow dimension; in retrospect this may be a little
too long, the unit does not need to be over 2 feet deep)
- 2x @12" or a bit longer (BCD hangers; cap with an elbow to keep
things from sliding off)
- 6 elbows
- 4 T's
- 4 casters with 5/16" threaded posts, installed on the lower elbows
- 4 nuts and 8 fender washers for the casters
- Cost: $50-60
